Audio for Wings over Illawarra

Finally the sun shone down and the winds stayed away for one of the largest air shows in the country right here in Albion Park! We have been supporting the air show through Bright Events and the amazing Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) for many years and were proud to once again be the supplier of all full range audio and PA equipment. The airshow saw around 20,000 people flock to the Wollongong area from around the country to see amazing displays from military, historical and stunt aircraft.

Any event of this type throws up challenges, but we love thinking outside the box and coming up with creative solutions! All up we were required to provide commentary and paging audio over a 2km distance. Due to predicted crowd size this year we brought in the big guns, our EV XLC line array systems providing clarity and precision over the long throw to the main viewing area. The line arrays needed to be powered by generators and fed signal via wireless links due to the need to taxi large aircraft between them throughout the weekend.

Throughout the rest of the site smaller distributed speakers allowed for the announcements of upcoming events, commentary on specific displays and of course the occasional top gun theme music to clearly be heard.

Our professional equipment from Electro-Voice, Dynacord, Sennheiser and Bose with the support of experienced audio technician and aviation enthusiast Brendan Dodds meant that the weekend ran smoothly and there were a lot of smiling faces.

Keep an eye out when you are there for our sponsored IPS golf cart which helps the retiree volunteers of the society get around the airfield!
